Indus Junction: Modern Indian Hits Trendy Queen West

Hip, young and dynamic best describes the two Canadian born Indian women, Alka and Poonam Dhir, who introduce “Indus Junction,” 811 Queen Street West in Toronto.  A fresh and modern Indian restaurant located in the heart of Queen West, officially opened its doors on Wednesday May 9, 2007.

Indus Junction will go beyond the expectations set by any Indian restaurant in Toronto, with its chic décor and contemporary twists on traditional Indian meals, Indus Junction is a unique concept Torontonians have never experienced. It will reflect an amazing and diverse cuisine that offers Indian food with a modern flare, plus Indian inspired martinis, cocktails and desserts. Customers will be pleasantly surprised by the extensive and inventive menu created by veteran chef Sanjiv Malhotra.

Along with exceptional food, the restaurants décor promotes an innovative, attractive India with designs by celebrity designer Glen Peloso, of Glen Peloso Interiors and designer on hit television shows Restaurant Makeover, Renovate My Wardrobe and Take This House And Sell It.  Peloso has designed a one of a kind restaurant with the walls artfully crafted by local mural artists, who showcase a modern graffiti/Indian-mehndi treatment.

The attentive service will determine a new standard in the Indian restaurant industry. The Executive Chef, Sanjiv Malhotra, has used his talent at 5-star hotel restaurants in Mumbai, India with the Oberoi Group, who owns and manages award winning luxury hotels and cruise ships around the world.  Sanjiv received his extensive training in Nigeria and Canada.

“We grew up in Canada but our Indian heritage has always been an integral part of our lives.  We want to bring the two worlds together in a restaurant that will cater to those who not only go to a restaurant to eat, but who go to enjoy a complete dining experience,” says sister Alka Dhir.

At Indus Junction east meets west; old crosses new and modern intersects with traditional.  These two sisters are taking Toronto’s typical, out of date and male dominated Indian restaurant scene to new heights. At Indus Junction customers will get the best Indian food this city has never tasted.
